This weekend Danny and I were driving to my mom's, but we only got a few houses away when I yelled, STOP!!!!
Why? Because of this beauty:
I think it's an incredible chair. He thought it was a piece of junk. So we stood at a garage sale and debated it for a good 20 minutes. (I think the lady thought we were crazy)
The deal was we could buy it as long as I really would take the initiative to get it covered, rather than just let it sit there.
So we bought it for $20. $20!!!! And carried it home. (& the matching ottoman which is not pictured!!!)
Yesterday I followed through with my end of the deal and got a quote.
$600, not including fabric.
WHAT?!?!?! Is that NORMAL?!?!
So the search for a re-upholsterer continues. If you have any leads, send them my way.
(Am I crazy or is this chair totally worth it???)
Hi. :) I agree, the chair is awesome! I am known to take furniture that people throw out or cheap finds from Goodwill and re-paint them white. My last project was a coffee table that some college students put by the curb. My husband got the privilege of carrying it home. :) I wish I knew how to re-cover furniture (besides throwing a slipcover over it). I don't know if that is a normal price, but it seems pretty outrageous to me. You could buy a brand new chair for less than that! Oh, btw... I'm Erin.I just stumbled across your blog and thought I would throw my to cents in! Would love for you to stop by and say hello sometime at my new photography blog, laylah-and-lior.
ReplyDeleteHope you find someone to re-do it for much less! Have a wonderful day. :)
Blessings, Erin
Erin, I do the same thing! See here: http://kaylynmachelle.blogspot.com/2009/04/reason-no-9360-why-i-love-my-fiance.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, new friend! :)
Have a great day.
Kay,
ReplyDeleteFirst and foremost. That chair is AWESOME. I totally would have gotten it.
With that said...it's known that re-upholstery is VERY expensive. I wanted to get some chairs re-upholstered, and even part of my couch because Ellie chewed a corner off...the cheapest I saw was $800!
Try craigslist or maybe even see if any schools nearby are lookin' for some furniture to re-upholster? Or...you can look it up on youtube and it can be your project!
Also, I know Ami's stepmom, Carol, does re-uphoslering. She lives in Upland. I don't know how much she would charge but that might be worth a try?
Love you! Yay for winning the debate! ;)
love this chair!! check around chino off central and then this place on schafer..i don't know about the pricing but worth a try!
ReplyDeleteHi Kaylyn -
ReplyDeleteI just priced getting cushions for a rocker recovered and it would be $225, that is just for two cushions. If Ami's mom has a good price please give out her information :)
