the best Monday.

Today is the best Monday. As I woke up early to do a Bible study with a very special student (very convenient to do, seeing we live across the street from the high school), Danny slept in. Then I went and cuddled with him under the warmth of our blankets. I smelled of coffee and hairspray and he warmed my cold feet. Now I am sitting here reading, writing, and making oatmeal (all at the same time, of course) and he is reading one of our favorite books, Valley of the Vision. (In my opinion, such a great prayer book to partner with your daily readings.) Then we will eat together, pray together, and I will be off to work while he enjoys his morning off. (Thank you, God, for a day off for my busy husband...he is so deserving of it.) Then, later on he will whisk me away from the church and take me to go dog "looking". (We're just going to look...really...That's what we keep telling ourselves.) And, because Danny's league starts today, I'll spend the evening watching him play basketball (and not doing homework. Hip hip.) A lovely Monday? I would say so. As for now, I'll share these words I just read:

I want first of all...to be at peace with myself. I want a singleness of eye, a purity of intention, a central core to my life that will enable me to carry out these obligations and activities as well as I can. I want, in fact- to borrow from the language of the saints- to live "in grace" as much of the time as possible. I am not using this term in a strictly theological sense. By grace I mean an inner harmony, essentially spiritual, which can be translated into outward harmony. I am seeking perhaps what Socrates asked for in the prayer from the Phaedrus when he said, "May the outward and inward man be one." I would like to achieve a state of inner spiritual grace from which I could function and give as I was meant to in the eye of God.
-Anne Morrow Lindbergh in The Gift from the Sea quoted in Gordon MacDonald's Ordering Your Private World

Don't you wish these were your words this morning? Me too. So let's let them be.

Gotta go. I've got an empty stomach and a hungry husband and a bowl of oatmeal with fresh bananas and strawberries waiting for me.

Shalom.
